James Franco Has A Party, This Is The End

James Franco is having a party* and everyone in Hollywood is invited. Seth Rogan, Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, Rhianna all turn up because, frankly (Franco?), there is no reason that anybody would EVER turn down an invite to James Franco's house. Emma Watson, Jason Segel, Paul Rudd all go too. This party is everything, the metaphoric (and perhaps literal) climax of all attendees lives. Which is timely, because then the apocalypse happens.

This Is The End is an action/comedy flick set for release in June this year (USA). All the above mentioned actors play themselves, all of them. That's different! And great!

Gifs That Make You Go Hmmm

Motion graphics designer and aspiring games developer Mr Div creates radical gifs. I could spend (have spent) way too long just sitting, and watching. Using a combination of After Effects and Cinema 4D his gifs have an other-worldly quality to them. Far flung universes, deep dreams, Midnight Juggernauts and Barbarella come to mind. Sit back, hit play (audio AND visual, I'm getting fancy) and get lost in the beautiful repetition of a Mr Div gif. Hmmm.

Flipping Her Lid

What do you get when you combine 30,000 bottle lids and a Russian woman? An incredible fusion of resourcefulness and creativity, that's what.

In the isolated village of Kamarchaga, located in the Siberian Taiga, Olga Costina has found a very novel way to reuse her lids. Nailing each lid individually onto the walls of her home, she has created motifs of the local flora and fauna, creating something of a local landmark.

She must drink a lot of lemonade.

Feeling wild? Reckless? Want to break the law?? Well then, whip out those knitting needles and throw caution to the wind, live on the edge, cover something very public in your very best, brightest knitting. 

Warm up a bus shelter, give the rubbish bin a cosy jumper, show everyone that tree trunks look great in cable knits too. Yarnstorm your neighbourhood. 

Guerrilla knitting, graffiti knitting, urban knitting or yarn bombing. Call it what you will, the movement first garnered international attention in 2007 when the Jafagirls knit up some trees in Yellow Springs, Ohio and called it The Knit Knot Tree. Illegal knitting in a place called Yellow Springs? It doesn't get more badass than that.

Meanwhile, over in London, graffitti knitting collective Knit The City operate out of a woolly-lined bunker. It's members, all with terrifying assumed names (Deadly Knitshade, Shorn-a the Dead, Knitting Ninja) are constantly conspiring new ways to "enhance public places or objects with graffiti knitting". So far they have spruced up a phone box in Parliament Square, spun a spidery web of yarn in Waterloo and thrown a huge knitted squid into the lap of the Charles Darwin statue at London's Natural History Museum.

Closer to home we have the Twilight Taggers, knitting havoc across Melbourne. Telegraph poles, library books, bike handlebars and parking meters are no longer safe with these knitwits loose on the streets. Lock up your fixies and children, they might be next.

These Boots Were Made For Weaving

Some people scrapbook, some play tennis, others keep silkworms. Everyone needs a hobby, something to sneak into conversation when you meet new people and don't want to talk about what you 'do' or where you went to school. Hobbies are way more fun, and it's always refreshing when you meet someone with a really weird hobby.

Like, finding cool and decorative ways to tie your shoelaces! You NEVER think of the way you thread your laces, you just do it; left over right over left etc. But did you know you can thread those suckers into a Supernova? Or a Double Helix? Go ahead and make them resemble some Train Tracks if that's the way you roll. I attempted an Asterisk after my brogues proved incapable of hosting a Star of David. They were lacking in the eyelet department... awkward.

Male models can get really tiresome to look at. All that perfect definition and symmetry... yawn. What the internet and fashion world both need is a roleMODEL who encompasses both style and utter cuteness. Sketchy Street Style

The fascination with the well-dressed and anonymous continues. However, not with another photographer trawling the streets to capture the young, hip and hot; this time it is slightly more covert. 

A photographic memory replaces the photographs. Artist Leo Greenfield commits the sartorially interesting to memory then later rehashes that memory as an illustration. A gorgeous idea with beautiful results. Based in Melbourne, we are granted an observer's view of the style set. From bearded bar staff to pretty girls on bikes, rad dads and fashion party patrons. 

"His drawings concentrate on documentation and communication, as he illustrates from memory the ever-changing space of street life and culture. On paper Greenfield impresses the silhouette and patterns of contemporary dressing, subsequently creating intimate social portraits of places and their communities."

Greenfield sees the art in dressing well. Quite literally.
